Record money

Check an account balance

Match recorded asset balances to reality without creating income or spending.

Updated: 10/6/2026

When to use a balance check

Use this when your recorded cash or bank balance differs from what you actually have. If you know a missing purchase or income caused the difference, record that transaction instead. A balance check corrects the balance without explaining an income or expense.

Record the actual balance

  1. Open Accounts and the balance-check action for an active asset account.
  2. Select the currency. Compare the recorded balance with your bank balance or counted cash.
  3. Enter the actual balance and review the difference. Add a note if useful.
  4. Confirm. You can review the before/after values and actor in the check history.

If the recorded balance changes while the form is open, refresh and check again before confirming. The check does not overwrite a newer balance silently.

What it does not do

The adjustment does not create a transaction or affect spending and monthly budgets. It may leave average cost unknown; do not treat it as a currency purchase. Credit-card debt is not adjusted through this asset-balance workflow. Read-only members can view available history but cannot confirm a change.
